This scene was really unnecessary IMO, because I don’t need to see him crushing this random bug to tell me he’s evil and he wants to crush Haru like a bug…
Haru not wanting pity and “stand on the same ground” with his friends is a pretty obvious theme so far…
…but I laughed out loud when I heard this line.
I know we’re supposed to believe the Accel World is extremely important and the border between the real and the virtual worlds will probably blur in the future, but it’s still funny when you read lines like these out loud.
This just occurred to me, but since you need to activate Burst Link to initiate a battle and they are fighting in 1/1,000 RL speed, then these obs are probably using their points to observe this “game” too. This can get really expensive if you set a frequent dueler to your obs list.
But then again, information is power, and one BB point is probably a worthwhile investment. The tin guy is pretty much cheating by creating an avatar that carries a laptop so he can rely more than just his own memory lol
Observation apparently doesn’t consume Burst Points because Snow Black’s BB program didn’t get uninstalled afterwards even though she was in the game.

This scene appears corny at the first glance, but I really liked it when the wings popped up.
New abilities unlocked from character epiphany is pretty common in ancient RPGs.
This sequence is pretty forced, but it’s still amazing.
Silver Crow is way too cool.
So is this guy.
I have to say though, this observer system in BB must have some kind of “view anywhere” or at least a “zoom and listen” function, or you can’t really see or hear anything from so far away. Wouldn’t that present a huge RL risk for Snow Black now that everyone can see her true form and identify her?
Oh, well. Time to stop thinking and just enjoy this anime.
And this is when this show turns full DBZ shounen.

This is probably a Gundam reference. It’s been referenced so many times that it’s practically a meme by now.
Taku did something to betray the Blue Legion and lost almost all his points (or maybe abusing it for kendo tournament was a violation of their rules?). Whatever happened, I actually like how they omitted it with this one single line because it’s not really important to the plot.
I have to say, Haku was hella vulnerable here. Just about any one of Cyan Pile’s attack could’ve reduced his HP to zero and gave Taku the win before he fell to death. This is some serious trust here, but I guess Haru’s speech earlier was inspirational enough or Taku just wasn’t thinking straight due to panic.
Damn, she’s fast!
Ep5 may have been a very shallow episode, but the art was absolutely phenomenal.
The amount of background details and composition designs were amazing.
This is my favorite subtle scene of this episode.

Princess Snow Black’s got style. She made her slave carry her up in the air so she could look down at these masochist pigs.
Whoever developed the program was watching that game and heard everything that happened.
We know the tin guy is voiced by the author of this anime’s source material, but that’s probably too much of a wild guess right now…

Nothing in LN either (at least for this chapter and beginning of the next). Although, she says it’s almost same as her nickname, so we were probably spared from a retarded name like 「黒雪 姫子」
I’m glad our educated guess of “Princess Snow Black” being a nickname turned out to be correct. Now it’ll sounded retarded if we actually kept “Kuroyukihime” as a nickname.
This episode seemed like an average shounen anime at times, but it was very entertaining for me. Although some of its entertainment value probably weren’t intended by the original author…

Logic error? Haru clearly set three players for this game. Where’s Black Lotus’s gauge? Why did she put her in danger by selecting her in the first place? Assuming Taku was a normal dueler and could’ve survived a loss from one single game, then what’s stopping him to challenge Snow Black after this game’s over?
Actually it was just him and Taku. He didn’t select Black Lotus when he was setting up the game. Her name was there because she was connected to the same local network as they were.

That still doesn’t solve the taking a loss then challenge Snow Black problem though… Unless he was planning to keep beating Taku until all the points are gone.
Also, that would mean observing doesn’t actually consume points. I guess the program was designed so that you get a free BB for observation.

1) Taku doesn’t have enough points to survive a loss against a level 1 Dueler since Snow Black mentioned that Cyan Pile was desperate for points, or
2) He could delay Taku long enough for Snow Black to recover. IIRC, the doctor mentioned something about Snow Black needing 12 hours.
Either way, it’s a huge gamble since if his assumption is wrong or he loses, Snow Black loses.
Unless there’s a rule where that have just fought can’t challenge/be challenged for a set amount of time to prevent spamming fight challenges and so that newbs wouldn’t lose all their points a minute after they connect to global net.
Also I agree that Taku’s reaction to Haru carrying Snow Black was probably the best scene this episode. No lines and you can’t even see Taku’s face but you know what he’s thinking.

There is also a rule saying that if you get duel invitation and you’re at your legion grounds then you can decline the challenge. This was showed in the Black Lotus case when she couldn’t attack Taku because he was at his legion grounds the whole time( backdoor thing). Simple, clever and awesome.
And if you check the “watch player” option you will be accelerated for free for the duration of the battle. Another nice feature of the system.
Remember that Silver has high defence against piercing. That’s the reason for Silver Crow “win”. He survived so many piercing attacks, loosing joints and armour parts because of this one feature. Quite cool that the third fight was the one where his metal-color based abilities came in handy. The reverse of what happened in the first & second fights where each attack was hurting him.
Anyone knows if this new Legion name has any meaning?
About the hentai part… You forgot how Taku used his super PILE on MC. His pile drilled MC through building(“I’m cumming!!”) to the Princess Snowblack chamber where he lies in ecstas… pain.

This isn’t a series to think deeply about. It’s like .hack//Sign, just with worse music. Or .hack + Bleach. Yeah, it’s .hack + Bleach. Don’t expect much else. (It would not take very long to track down whoever is enforcing the rules/developing the game)
Oh, and, yeah, Snow Black is the world’s biggest villain. That’s hilarious, when you think about it. It’s like he took Shao Kan into the air to talk at the Mortal Kombat fighters, haha.

In Episode 9, she reveals her name tag, which supposedly can’t be faked. Her name on it is “Snow Black”. She’s revealed her real name to Haru already, and he has no reaction to indicate he’s surprised her name on the tag would be that.
It also makes sense in that she says it’s not that different from her nickname.

The characters and their interaction in real life is still the most interesting part of all this, Haru’s dialogue with Snow Black seems to be the high points of the show, as well as anything with Chiyu. Maybe things in the Accelerated World get more interesting when they all come together and the revolution begins.
Snow Black’s dynamic personality and a her wide range of reactions is great, from being frazzled and jealous to being shy and embarassed, it’s quite a contrast from her regular expression.
Hopefully next ep is Chiyu dumping Taku for using her as a backdoor.

In the earlier eps I already found it odd that the silver colour means both a weakness to imbact and resillience to amputation. They feel contradictionary in the real world, were a huge impact is the most likely cause for involentary amputation. Perhaps they discuss it in terms of damage ingame, resulting in minimal damage for losing a limb.
In my opinion a very handy damage stat *sarcasm* since losing a limb obviously has a lot of advantages.
